KETO DIET (controversial diet???)

KETOGENIC DIET (controversial diet???)

Several scientific studies have concluded that a diet high in fat but low in carbohydrates may be more effective in weight loss than a low fat diet.

A traditional ketogenic diet program is composed of 80% fat, 15% protein, and 5% carbohydrates.

The diet is based on the idea that by stopping burn calories from carbohydrates, the body begins to burn fat for energy, entering a state known as ketosis.

The ketogenic diet is a controversial diet with unclear benefits and long-term effects.  Some scientists support that the long-term accumulation of ketones is harmful to health because they are sources of "emergency" fuels.

The following are the most serious risks associated with the ketogenic diet according to the relevant studies.

  • It has many limitations: Due to the very low percentage of carbohydrates it allows, those who follow it eat mainly meat, whole dairy products and starch-free vegetables, such as greens. Vegetables such as cabbage, cauliflower and potatoes should be avoided. All cereals and most fruits are also banned. Just one apple has more than the average daily dose of carbohydrates that one should eat. In order to be sure that you are getting the necessary vitamins and trace elements that your body needs, it is best to follow it after consulting a nutritionist.
  • Carbohydrates help the body retain fluids, which reduces the risk of dehydration, constipation, and kidney stones.
  • It is not a simple weight-loss diet: Many people follow the ketogenic diet on a long-term basis, rather than just to lose weight. Others, on the other hand, believe that diet is only a temporary solution to weight loss. However, the ketosis process can have more negative than positive effects, as many people experience dizziness and palpitations

My recommendation is not to try it without first consulting a doctor: Because the ketogenic diet is an extreme diet, it is necessary to consult a doctor before embarking on it. No one should use it without medical supervision, especially if they have health problems
